1ST ANNUAL BARLEY MILL OPEN - 2011
You know the song *Wasn't That a Party*, well...that was the atmosphere at
the Barley Mill Brew Pub on March 18 & 19 for the Barley Mill Open!!
Thanks to our Board Movers who moved in & out 2 boards: Rod Betker, Marlowe
Halvorson, Tom Loughren, Darrel Karhut, Dave Loughren, Buster Holt, Porky
Desjarlais, Mark Anderson & Tyler Halvorson (what would we do without these
guys).
A HUGE THANKS to Kevin & his staff at the Barley Mill Brew Pub for your help
& great service Friday & Saturday & the donation of door prizes from Molson
& Bacardi were fantastic, all the players who participated got at least 3
gifts each.
Our fundraising: We did 2 bottle draws won by Shelley Coubrough & Gloria
Desjarlais. The Die Hards team captained by Mark Anderson with his players,
Korena Olsen, Scott Worden, Ashley Hubick, Doug Anderson & Amber Randle
donated a fabulous gift basket (put together by Korena & her Mom, beautiful
job) & was won by Marlowe Halvorson. Thanks to Rod B., Robyn, Kim, Mark A.
& Glenda for helping with the draws, very much appreciated.
The competition: 14 teams entered & what great playing, especially by our
rookies & we had 3 players who are not in the league, 2 players "Aaron &
Brent" who work at the Barley Mill got hooked on shuffleboard after Rod put
his board in the pub (we had to phone Aaron to wake him up to be at the Pub
by 11 - LOL - he works nights) & 1 Player "Arnie" who has never played
board. Thanks to Stella Vanin for stepping in & making it an even 14 teams.
In the end Sherri Clarke & Mark "Buster" Holt took 1st place & Robyn White &
Rod Betker came 2nd with Gloria & Rod "Porky" Desjarlais coming in 3rd and
we had a "Best of the Rest Division" won by Tom & Dave Loughren.
And as always, great to see Art Evans drop by on Saturday (Irene was
shopping) & watching all the new players & gave them some of his expert
advice!! Kayla joined us on Saturday still waiting to go into labor.
Cheers to all who participated & helped put the tournament together & to our
cheerleaders, this certainly was a fun 2 days. See ya next year.
And P.S. good news Gramma Shelley just phoned & Kayla & Andrew delivered a healthy baby boy "Brennan" 8 lbs. 4oz. at 10:03 Sunday morn. Congrats to all.

All Stars 2011
It was a chilly February 19, but was a hot time at the Craven Motor Inn for
our Annual "All Stars" Tournament. So between shots, shooters & slots the
East & West teams battled it out till the end, even tho after the 6th game
the East Team had won.
The Salty Caesars Team from the East captained by Allan Carton with his
players Ronda Sentes, Porky Desjarlais, Doug Gienow, Mark Anderson & Val
Pretty WON over The Best of the West Team captained by Marlowe Halvorson
with his players Sheila Pelletier, Bill Pretty, Rod Lacelle, Rod Betker &
Paul Zerr. Some pretty great shots were made & of course we heard the
usual...can't believe I missed that again!!! Porky & Val both made amazing
shots, but we all agreed Val's was better but being the typical man of
course Porky thought his was the best!!!
After a few too many buccas bought for scorekeeper Liz "hic"...she had to
hand over those official duties to Crystal Huzina so a huge thanks to
Crystal "one of our rookies this season". Our other spectators Crystal
Pretty, Hazel Turgeon, Gloria Desjarlais, Darrell Karhut, Mickey Lewis,
Kathy Eden & Garry Whalen had fun watching & playing the slots. Garry won
big at the slots & bought us all shooters...thanks Garry. Art & Irene Evans
"our best cheerleaders" drove out for a visit, Art always the eagle eye
watching all the shots being made!!!
Thanks to Crystal Pretty for doing the 50/50 draw & our winner was Mark
Anderson. And a special thanks to Shauna our bartender/server
extraordinaire & the other staff of the Craven Motor Inn. The BBQ Pit was a
hit, those were some excellent steak dinners! So a fun day was had by
everyone & excellent playing by all the shuffleboarders participating in
this annual event...see ya all next year.

RDSL CHRISTMAS SHOOT RESULTS, Eagles Club, December 18, 2010 - Pictures - Page 1 Page 2
21 players made up teams of 3 (A plays A, B plays B, C plays C) in a single
round robin format. Thanks to Rod "Santa" Betker our drawmaster who along
with his "Helper" Liz Patrick had a bag full of Christmas presents for some
naughty & nice RDSL Members: Hams, Turkey Breasts, Apple Pies, Liqueur
Filled Chocolates, Cookies & a package of Bologna for the goofiest shot won
by Gloria Desjarlais & everyone who participated got one of those Christmas
goodies & thanks to Garry Whalen who donated 3 Calendars & Pens to go along
with prizes for our winners.
Thanks to the Eagles Club Staff & Art Evans joined us in the afternoon while
Irene was Christmas shopping & Dave & Cheryl Loughren came to watch too!!
The 3 Christmas Cheer draws were won by Rod Lacelle, Rod Betker & Dave
Loughren.

What a fun time we all had Nov. 12 & 13, 2010.

Some really good playing was done to get the top 3 spots, as those boards were pretty tricky, great camaraderie & nice to see (as always) Art & Irene.

PARENT/SIBLING TOURNAMENT
Fraternal Order of Eagles, Saturday, October 23, 2010
We would like to thank Rod Betker who thought a Parent/Sibling Tournament might work to recruit rookies for our league. A phone blitz was done to encourage our shuffleboard members to bring out a new player (son, daughter, niece, nephew, cousin, friend as long as they were not in the league) 2 extra boards were brought in and what a FUN day it turned out to be…AND IT WORKED….We recruited 7 new players so far!!
WE HAD 12 TEAMS (MENTOR FIRST/ROOKIE 2ND):

Kristine & Jaired (Kristine is a rookie from last year & Jaired (Bill & Val’s son) our youngest player at 12 years old & a future shuffleboard player in the making)

Mike & Dustin (Dustin [Breann’s boyfriend] filled in – he came to watch & didn’t know he was going to end up playing)
Mark & Doug (Son & Dad)
Ronda & Wes (Mom & daughter’s boyfriend)
Rodney (Porky) & Jasmine (Step Dad & Step Daughter)
Sherri & Breann (Mom & Daughter)
Val & KC (Mom & Daughter)
An ABC event was done guaranteeing teams 3 games. At first we could tell the “rookies” were a little nervous, but as the day went on…they were all really getting into it & amazed at some of the shots they made on their own & with coaching from their mentors.

A HUGE CONGRATS to all the players (mentors & rookies) we could tell it was a fun day & the laughter said it all. Of note Marlowe & Tyler were in C & scratched & clawed (literally – inside joke) all the way back to win.
Rod would like to extend a HUGE THANKS to our board movers, setting up & clean up crews: Mike, Marlowe, Tyler, Mark A., Buster, Paul, Rachael, Alvin, Porky & Liz and thanks to the Eagles Club for going 1/2s on food platters. And Liz would like to thank Mark A. & Paul for doing the two 50/50 draws & Gift Basket (Breakfast in a Bag) draw, donated by Liz.
Then, the majority of us went over to Marlowe & Shelley’s to play poker & as people were knocked out of poker we played more board too. Thanks M&S.
